The Day Thou Gavest Lord, Is Ended | Ellerton arr. Alwyn Green

This beautiful hymn, masterfully arranged by Alwyn Green for 10 piece Brass Ensemble is thought to have been the work of Cheshire vicar John Ellerton who is said to have written it in 1870.

It was used by Queen Victoria as the hymn for her Diamond Jubilee in 1897, but it was also sung a century later when Britain handed over the control of Hong Kong to China, closing a final chapter in the colonial story.

It has been described as having a ‘beautifully managed geographical progression and structure’.

This arrangement has all the serenity and dignity of the original work.
