I wrote this piece to develop contrasting moods and feelings within two conflicting time signatures. The piece uses a 4 beat and a 3 beat pattern to try to create a clear delineation to the mood changes. The 4 beat pattern opens the piece in a minor key in a mysterious, yet tense opening which builds until the music flows into a more lyrical and romantic wood wind melody. This theme undergoes some development, yet quickly reverts to the opening theme which plays with the melodic material until a much grander return to the 3 beat melody. This soon loses its grandeur, and tumbles down in Mood before being taken over by the 4 beat pattern to the conclusion of the piece. This dialogue between these two musical ideas and styles develops, yet contrasts mood, style and texture. Chris Ellis
