Take-off! 2, in an inspiring progression from Take-off! 1, the innovative concept for teaching beginner wind students.or school orchestral musicians. Take-off! 2 is ideal for full-class teaching, for wind bands, brass bands and wind ensembles of any size. It’s flexibility allows an endless combination of wind instruments, and its versatility means it can even be used for individual tuition and as performance material.
Take-off! 2 has catchy music and attractive melodies within an easily manageable range and the pace of learning can be adapted to suit the individual or ensemble.
In Take-off! 2 there are four parts for every piece of music, a melody part, two harmony parts and a bass part. Most books have the melody and two harmony parts, however the trombone, bassoon and Euphonium books have all four parts, whereas the tuba books have the melody and bass parts. This makes the material extremely flexible, with the ability to form ensembles and bands of any size from a duet, trio or quartet up to a full band.
Where Take-off! 1 was in unison, the pieces in Take-off! 2 are homophonic, meaning that all parts are rhythmically identical. This is especially useful for developing timing, articulation, phrasing and intonation, and optimises the development of a good sound from the outset.
Students are also encouraged to develop their own performances that suit their skills. On the CD, the tracks are repeated two or three times consecutively. On the first play through, all students can play; on the second play through a soloist or instrumental group can play; with everyone coming in again together on the third play through. There are endless possibilities for creating one’s own combinations.
All songs on the CD are also available on Spotify, iTunes, Deezer and other streaming and download services.
