Call It a Day | Colin Shaw

There are three versions of this piece of music for 4 players: One is quite simple, the next adds something for the conductor to play, and the last one is slightly more challenging especially at the beginning and at the end.
All of the players exclaim the names of foods and days of the week throughout the piece. The inspiration for this was the daily menu of food at the school where I teach! Of course Call It A Day can be adapted to include different meals…
The conductor needs a snare drum and a mounted tambourine next to the conducting stand for the Intermediate and Advanced versions.The days of the week are truncated phonetically.
An effective idea is to lead the percussion ensemble in to the performance area from afar during the first few bars, with one player drumming on a tom strapped to their side. Colin Shaw
